Data Center Planning
Tool Released
AssetGen Planner is now
available - the latest product in the AssetGen infrastructure management
tools. Designed to help reduce the manual workload involved in planning
and managing change, AssetGen Planner automates the use of information
held in data centre and service management toolsets. Some of the
features include;
- Finding cabinets with the space, power, connectivity required
for complex hardware
- Automated drawing of floor plans and rack layouts in Visio
- Assessing the impact on services of multiple equipment
changes
- Identifying the hardware and service impacts of power
downs
- Automated drawing of topology diagrams covering LAN/SAN/Power
connectivity to critical devices
- Capacity reports on space, ports, power resources
"AssetGen Planner
really makes a difference to the workload of data centre operations
and project teams" said David Cuthbertson, MD of Square Mile.
"Provisioning, decommissioning and reporting activities suddenly
become easier. Taking down a PDU would involve tracing every device
connected to each power strip, then tracing the connectivity of
servers and LAN/SAN switches, as well as having to understand service
impacts. Now it takes a few seconds rather than days or weeks. Producing
updated Visio diagrams of racks is so easy that no organisation
can say its too time consuming to have accurate data centre documentation".

Square Mile launches
IT Infrastructure Training Courses
Square Mile Systems announced
today the introduction of their training programmes to help with
the management of complex IT infrastructures. They enable IT teams
and managers to acquire additional skills and experience in areas
that are strategic in nature, but difficult or poorly served.
"The need for these
courses has directly resulted from our integration and deployment
activities" said David Cuthbertson, MD of Square Mile. "Optimising
the mix of process, technology and people when managing end to end
services is not easy. All our courses are about real world issues
where a short, focused training session can save months, or years
of internal communication. If delivered on site within a customer,
they provide a means to help communication within multi-disciplinary
teams developing internal workng practices."
More details about the
six courses are in the training section of the Square Mile web site.
All courses are one day in duration.
1. Practical Data Centre
Management Part 1
2. Practical Data Centre
Management Part 2
3. How to Map Services
and Systems
4. Practical Asset and
Configuration Management
5. Practical Data Integration
across IT Toolsets
6. Improving Infrastructure
Change Processes
The first public courses
are scheduled for March 2008 in the UK and April in Australia. [click

Square Mile Systems
Opens in Australia!
As part of our growth,
Square Mile Systems are pleased to announce the opening of our new
office in Western Australia for supporting Australia and the AsiaPac
region. Brendan Martin joins the team and will be providing sales
and technical support to AsiaPac countries. "I've been following
Square Mile activities for some time, mainly related to their leadership
in ITIL configuration management practices" said Brendan. "Being
offered the chance to help set up Square Mile activities locally
was too good to miss. It also gives me the ability to combine my
first hand experience with large government IT programmes, with
solutions that actually deliver what ITIL only promises".
"We welcome Brendan
to the team and look forward to expanding our international activities
in 2008" said David Cuthbertson MD of Square Mile. "He
is well qualified to achieve the same success we have found in the
UK and US. All companies with large IT infrastructures are finding
that managing change is becoming more difficult, with the combination
of our practical solutions and skills being very attractive."
For Australian and AsiaPac
customers, you can contact Brendan Martin directly on +61 (0)417

AssetGen Connect
1.6 & AssetGen CMDB 1.3 Released
The latest versions of
AssetGen range have now been released with additional integration
features between the two packages. Any service maps, network diagrams,
rack layouts, system diagrams derived from the AssetGen toolsets
have embedded links that launch you back to the original database
in one or two mouse clicks. These enhancements make it easier for
technical infrastructure, service management and outsource teams
to work more effectively when planning, managing or reacting to
changes.
For example;
Launch an
impact assessment on software or services by selecting a hardware
component in a rack diagram
Find the
exact physical location of a device referenced in a service map
or service desk CMDB
Navigate
from a system diagram back into the infrastructure database to verify/update
current data
Quickly assess
all services impacted by a hardware fault or an unsuccessful change
implementation
Access existing
service desk CMDB data faster than the existing standard user interface
It is easier to show the
speed and ease of use of our latest enhancements, rather than describe
them so contact us for an online demo on +44 (0)870 950 4651. All
you need is a web browser and 20 minutes to see the latest configuration
management techniques implemented in our technology!
