AssetGen Planner is designed
to support the complex planning and change analysis needed in modern
data centres. It
links into the AssetGen Connect and SysMap databases covering physical
infrastructure and system mapping, providing a powerful, user driven,
system supporting the needs of planning or operational decisions.
It can reduce many days of work by many individuals into a few seconds,
vital when faced with increasing workloads, major faults or urgent
needs.
AssetGen
Planner helps with data centre planning activities such as:
- Automatically creating Visio diagrams showing network, storage,
power and other topologies.
- Rapidly identifying devices affected by changes in physical
infrastructure
- Analysing the service impact of multiple changes to equipment
- Generating Visio diagrams of network and/or power topologies,
top down floorplans and cabinet layouts
- Quickly finding available capacity and resources for provisioning
new equipment
The aim is to reduce the
amount of manual effort analysing, planning and communicating change
Example
1. Identifying the services impact of a power down
to a room or power distribution unit
Typically
this will involve creating an inventory of critical devices, assessing
those devices also connected to network or storage devices and then
identifying the services impacted by each. AssetGen Planner takes
a few
seconds.
Example 2.
Four new blade servers need to be housed in the data centre
They each take up 16U
of cabinet height, require 24 LAN and 10 SAN connections (with diverse
routing), plus 3kw of power. It can take many hours or days to identify
suitable cabinets that are already pre-provisioned, have diverse
cabling routes, available space and are within the limits for the
cooling capability of the local zone.
Example
3. Up to date rack diagrams are required of all server
racks for inventory verification
Rather
than manually drawing rack diagrams, AssetGen Planner will generate
Visio diagrams as required using filters for server, network
or cabling cabinets. Devices and power strips will be positioned
automatically in racks, with configuration data embedded such as
maintenance data, owners, IP address etc. For more device detail
or to re-validate the current data, hyperlinks to AssetGen Connect
and SysMap are automatically inserted.
Buying AssetGen
Planner
AssetGen Planner is licenced
per desktop user and requires a standard MS platform such as XP
or Vista. It assumes that AssetGen Connect and/or AssetGen SysMap
are already installed for Planner to access. Contact us with your
requirements and we'll be glad to provide a specific quotation.
